This role within our education team will be a key player contributing to the undergraduate related work within the department. Reporting to the Lead for Undergraduate Education, this role will assist with the coordination of collating and reviewing documentation relating to veterinary programme accreditation and will be involved in reviewing evidence presented in support of our accreditation standards. The Senior Education Officer will be responsible for updating our databases with new documentation, attending accreditation visits to universities in the UK and overseas occasionally, and providing support for the training programme for our accreditation panel members.

The Senior Education Officer will be responsible for all work relating to Extra-Mural Studies (EMS), including project work, liaison with vet schools and committees, and attendance at stakeholder events.

This role will also act as Secretary to the Specialist Recognition Subcommittee (SRC), as well as processing applications and maintaining the list of RCVS Specialists.

 

Job Purpose

 

To provide the effective delivery of services within the Education Department, and to support the committees and working parties relevant to that area.

To support the Lead for Undergraduate Education in delivering high quality and professional educational services and outcomes for stakeholders.

To contribute to the further development of services within the education department as required to ensure the needs of the RCVS and stakeholders are met.

To act as Secretary to the Specialist Recognition Subcommittee (SRC), prepare & distribute agendas, papers and minutes, and maintain the list of Specialists, in collaboration with the Lead for Postgraduate Education.   

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Manage, maintain and further develop systems and procedures to ensure the effective delivery of educational services within the department
  • Ensure the effective management and administration of educational services within a defined scope of business within the education department, in accordance with agreed procedures and timescales
  • Reviewing evidence submitted by schools in support of accreditation standards
  • Ensure that accurate records are maintained, and produce accurate listings for publication in the register and on the website as required
  • Review and update systems, procedures and documentation, including guidance documents, applications forms, processes and relevant website pages, working with the IT team where appropriate
  • Prepare reports and papers for relevant committees, including Education Committee, and others as appropriate
  • Provide information and advice to external enquirers in connection with Education activity and other work of the Education Department. Respond to enquiries and service requests from M’sRCVS and other stakeholders in a professional and timely manner.
  • Support the evaluation of educational services within the department and take forward development projects to improve the service when required
  • Keep up to date with issues affecting veterinary education and training, including policy developments in the College generally
  • Assist colleagues in the Education department in producing reports and briefing papers on veterinary education matters
  • Produce and analyse statistical information that supports the Education Department

Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level, or equivalent experience, in a relevant field

  • Knowledge and experience of quality indicators in an educational context
  • Ability to organise and prioritise work to meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work accurately and pay attention to detail
  • Experience of working as part of a team and willingness to provide support to colleagues

  • Competence in the use of a variety of IT systems, including databases
  • High level of numeracy
  • Experience of organising and analysing evidence and general statistical data
  • Experience of supporting committees committee’s and working groups
  • General project management skills
