Background

The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons is the statutory regulator for the veterinary profession in the UK, thanks to the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966, and also has a range of roles that are supported by our Royal Charter, including regulation of the veterinary nursing profession.

 

As a regulator, we set, uphold and advance veterinary standards. As a Royal College, we promote, encourage and advance the study and practice of the art and science of veterinary surgery and medicine. We do all these things in the interests of animal health and welfare, and in the wider public interest.

This exciting new role will help deliver some of the strategic people plan activities to support all Directorates across the College.

 

Job Purpose

Working with the Director of People and the team to drive all elements of the people experience within organisations and support the delivery of a new people plan. The work will cover all areas of the People agenda but with specific focus on developing internal talent, implementing leadership frameworks and maintaining a positive culture.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Operational and strategic support to leaders to develop their teams
  • Ongoing development of the College’s culture whilst bringing to life the organisations values
  • Continuous development of engagement principles
  • Provide guidance and direction on people related matters
  • To be a custodian of the diversity, equality and inclusion agenda
  • Coach leaders to workforce plan
  • Encourage creative thinking around the people agenda
  • Support with regular and adhoc recruitment
  • Development of the reward and recognition schemes
  • Manage employee relation cases

 

Other:

  • To work with other organisations to keep ahead of people challenges and trends
  • To work across departments to build relationships and understand departmental people challenges
  • Use data to guide and support people activity, in line with the people plan and College strategy

 

Essential Criteria

  • Experience in a generalist capacity with an understanding of all spectrums of the people agenda
  • Experience of developing leadership and talent frameworks
  • Experience of developing organisational culture

 

Qualifications

  • Chartered Member

 

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

  • Understanding of theoretical approaches to engaging a workforce
  • Solid ability to build long standing positive relationships
  • Ability to manage objections and a level of resilience to provide alternative plans
  • Diplomacy, tact and endurance
  • Confident mindset
  • Solid ability to manage all Office based IT packages
  • Leads by example and able to influence senior leaders

 

Desired skills & experience

  • Experience of working in a regulatory environment
  • Experience of working in veterinary sectors
  • Worked for a CIPD award winning organisation
